Who says shawls have to be lacy and delicate? Ribbing makes a fantastic fabric for a casual, everyday piece that works with any style.

NOTES
* A slightly unusual shaping creates an extra wide piece with some curl at the edges for an enveloping wrap.

  • The pattern calls for 2 skeins of yarn, and the individual sections are set by yardage/yarn used. No counting of stitches required, but you will need a digital scale.

  • The pattern calls for different increases to be worked on the edges from those in the centre. If you prefer, you can use the ‘plain’ backwards loop M1 for all.

  • Throughout the pattern, slip markers as you come across them if not specified.

SIZING
One size
›› At tension and with yardage given, finished shawl is: 180 cm/70 inches wide and 53 cm/21 inches deep.

YARN
Walcot Yarns Opus (Sport; 70% Falkland Merino; 30% baby alpaca, 325 m / 355 yd per 100g)
Cinnabar : 2 skeins

NEEDLES

  • 4.5 mm (US 7) 60 cm/24” circular needle
  • 5.5 mm (US 9) circular needle for working cast-off ›› Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct tension.

NOTIONS

  • Removable stitch markers
  • Digital scale

GAUGE
20 sts x 24 rows = 5 cm / 2” in ribbing stitch after an aggressive blocking
›› Tension is not crucial for this pattern. As long as you like the fabric that results, it will be fine, although working at a different tension will result in a different size piece.
